Architect: Dave Johnson, AIA
Matthew Toomb’s home at 5955 Waters Edge Drive was designed by Dave Johnson, AIA of Studio 951 and built in 2016 by Ironwood Builders. The Prairie-style walkout ranch is approximately 5600 sf with five bedrooms, an open kitchen, and an attached pool house. The exterior features simple materials, stone and stucco, and a low-profile roof with generous overhangs.
The Natural Stone from Edwards Stone was brought into the house via columns at the front door and as facing on two fireplaces. Solid wood flooring runs throughout the open Kitchen, Dining and Living rooms. Versions of grays and grayish browns form a base for all the woodwork throughout the home. The wall surfaces were kept light as neutral back grounds to the furnishings and artwork.
The home boasts an indoor hot tub room that opens to the generous covered patio that connects with the pool, fire pit and pool house, which is also connected to the main house via a hallway. The home also hosts a fully tiled steam room. The basement has a generous bar area with a splash of bold blue tile on the wall. The ample deck gives room for sitting, eating and relaxing by a third stone fireplace.
The landscaping was designed by Dr. Richard Sutton of UNL to blend seamlessly into the natural grasses and vegetation that was kept unaltered for the majority of the acreage.
Matt wanted a nice house on an acreage. With an eye for current desires as well as future resale value, Johnson designed a home that fits Matt’s day to day needs and allows for entertaining his friends, family, and coworkers.
